Adriana Loeff is an award-winning documentary filmmaker from Montevideo, Uruguay. Her debut film, “Hit,” —in co-direction with Claudia Abend— topped the national box office and was part of the official selection at BAFICI (Buenos Aires). It was followed by “La flor de la vida,” produced with the support from Sundance Institute, which had its world premiere at IDFA (Amsterdam) and received, among others, the Audience Award at Malaga Film Festival and a Special Jury Award at It’s All True. Together with co-director Claudia Abend, she is currently shooting her third feature-length documentary film, “El silencio de las madres”. As a journalist and content producer, Loeff collaborated with AP, AFP, CNN International, Al Jazeera and Storyhunter, among others. She also produced and wrote a documentary on popular religiosity in Latin America for NatGeo. She has produced, shot and/or edited short documentaries and other audiovisual pieces for clients including UNICEF, UNESCO, UN Women, Inter-American Development Bank, foundations and government agencies. Loeff holds a BA in Communication from the Catholic University of Uruguay, and a Master’s Degree in Latin American Studies and Journalism from New York University, through a Fulbright scholarship. She is adjunct professor of documentary film at the University of Montevideo.

Her parents fled El Salvador; now she tends to the health of other immigrants in Iowa

Naomi Marroquín spends several days a week zigzagging the state of Iowa in a van. She is part of a team that sets up mobile clinics across the state to serve immigrants and help close gaps in access to healthcare. Serving others is something she learned from her parents. We spent the day with her to learn more about her story.
